The challenge

Operating SIPI, an underwater towed camera, means adjusting its wings to control depth, tracking distance to the seafloor, and later merging navigation video with GPS and sensor data into georeferenced imagery for habitat mapping — all without a unified way to run and process a survey end to end.

What we built

We developed the software that runs SIPI by remote control: a plug-and-play, web-based interface that works from any PC, tablet or phone over WiFi, streaming live navigation video, depth and distance-to-bottom readings and vessel GPS in real time, plus a post-processing tool that merges that sensor data into the video and extracts georeferenced stills.

The outcome

Operators run stereo video and seafloor-mapping surveys straight from a browser, with every video and position logged, downloadable and ready for accurate, georeferenced habitat mapping.
